What's Florence's best kept secret?
It is difficult to say what the best kept secret is, as it often depends on what someone finds interesting or exciting. Some might say that Florence's best kept secret is the hidden labyrinth beneath the city, a network of tunnels and catacombs dating back to Etruscan times.
Others would say it is the hidden rooms and treasures in the city's great museums, such as the Uffizi and the Bargello, which are accessible only to scholars and specialists.
It is also possible that Florence's best-kept secret is its hidden gardens and parks, often known only to locals, which offer an oasis of peace and tranquillity amidst the hustle and bustle of city life.

The Statue of David by Michelangelo can be found in the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence, Italy. It is one of the most famous works of Renaissance art and was created by the famous artist Michelangelo Buonarroti. Created between 1501 and 1504, the statue represents the biblical hero David with a sling over his shoulder. The statue is about 4.3 metres high and is made of marble. In Florence, brunch actually doesn't exist, and I know few Italians who succumb to this American habit. Brunching is simply a very un-Italian concept of eating extensively somewhere between breakfast and lunch. Brunch is that moment when you decide that time is an illusion and meals need not be defined by the clock, and that almost sounds like a holiday!
Pisa's Galileo Galilei airport is almost in the city centre, and if you haven't already been there, you will undoubtedly arrive or depart from it next time when you visit Tuscany. If you don't want to pick up a rental car yet, you can take the little train into the city or you can drive directly to Florence (70 km) or Lucca (25 km).

Rome: the eternal city's hotel scene is set for a boost with a new branch of Nobu Hotels and Six Senses hotels, plus the boutique hotel ROMEO Roma, in a 16th-century palace by Zaha Hadid. But at the top of our must-visit list is the Bulgari Rome. This Italian brand owns hotels as far away as Shanghai and Bali, but is finally opening its flagship in its hometown coming this spring or summer. Housed in a 1930s modernist building composed mostly of travertine marble and red brick, it will surely be the...
Signor Buontalenti was, in my humble opinion, one of the most inventive cooks of all time. He worked for the aristocratic family de Medici, which surrounded themselves with talent, just like Michelangelo who worked under the Medici's tutelage as well. This recipe is one of those classic and ancient Buontalenti recipes, the zuccotto, a sponge cake dough drowned in liqueur with a center of semifreddo.
Jennifer Lopez recently paid €7000 a night for a suite at the Tiberio Palace on Capri. Of course, there are few who can afford this. A 'regular' room in this hotel costs € 1345 per night this year, but watch out because next year the same room will cost a whopping € 1698. By the way, luxury hotels, those with five stars and higher, suffered the least during the pandemic. The hotel rates of these hotels seem to be going up. Why is that?
The historic center of Florence is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and at the same time a kind of open-air museum. Strict measures have been taken to protect the many monuments and works of art. But the center is small enough to be perfect to walk around while you visit. (Due to Covid measures, the information below may change.)
Are you looking for a good Italian restaurant with a phenomenal view? If you have time and room in your stomach, you can have excellent food every day for a reasonable price during your entire stay. However, some people might want to dig a little deeper for a table with a fantastic view and good food. Many of the 'celebrated' restaurants serve, in my opinion, dubious quality for an excessive price. That's a pity, because there are plenty of restaurants that are worth it.
