Abruzzo

Abruzzo, Rocca Calascio

Looking for travel tips for a trip to Abruzzo? The region of Abruzzo  (Abruzzo) has always been isolated. The rugged mountainous terrain kept people from contacting each other. Pescara is a fishing port and a real tourist resort, while from the beach at Teramo, on the autostrada to Rome, you can reach the highest peaks of the Gran Sasso in 30 minutes. The mountain villages of Abruzzo, especially in the province of l'Aquila, are often enchantingly beautiful and untouched by time. Abruzzo, a region in southern central Italy.

What makes Abruzzo a great place to visit?

The region is rich in natural beauty and has three major national parks and a regional nature park, the Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo (a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017), and is renowned for the brown bears that still live there. The two highest peaks of the Apennines are also in Abruzzo, the Corno Grande in the Gran Sasso (2912 metres) and the Monte Amaro in the Majella (2795 metres). Abruzzo (Italian: Abruzzi or, more correctly, the singular Abruzzo) is a region in south-central Italy.Eremo Celestiniano di Sant'Onofrio al Morrone

What can I do in Abruzzo?

The Abruzzi are above all a region for the sporty and adventurous traveler. People looking for nature and to explore come here most of all. Although the region is growing in popularity because of its unspoilt natural beauty, you won't find many tourists here yet, and certainly no crowds.

The main attractions are the mountain Gran Sasso d'Italia for skiers and hikers, Monte Amaro in the National Park Maiella, the famous ruins of the fortress on Rocca Calascio, the mountain Corno Grande for hiking and winter sports. Abruzzo also has a beautiful Adriatic coast, interesting ghost towns and wonderful hotels such as the Sextantio Albergo Diffuso in Santo Stefano di Sessanio.
