A true spectacle of nature in the beautiful Valbelluna along the San Boldo Pass, "the road of 100 days"

.

We are in the southernmost part of the province of Belluno (Veneto), in the Valbelluna valley. Crossing the woods in the hamlet of Calcherola, you are going to discover the Canyon Brent de l'Art, an unexpected natural phenomenon.  Created 12,000 years ago by a great flood and falling debris. When you arrive in Trichiana, follow the signs to Sant'Antonio Tortal or continue to follow the beautiful San Boldo Pass.

This mountain pass consists of a succession of curves and tunnels, the highest point is about 700 m. The historical origin of the San Boldo pass goes back to Roman times and has always been an important link between the two provinces. Construction of one of the most spectacular passes in the Veneto began at the end of January 1918.

A masterpiece of engineering completed in just 100 days with the deployment of 7000 workers, including soldiers, civilians, and prisoners of war.  When you arrive in the village Sant'Antonio Tortal it is best to leave your car in the parking lot of Brent de l'Art. From here a footpath runs through the beautiful valley and after about 20 minutes you enter the forest, from here you follow the signs to the canyon. The downhill path goes over a bridge from where you can admire the beautiful Brent Grande mountains, the southernmost point of the Dolomites.  The hike and the visit to the canyon takes about an hour, if you have some time left, then go along to the hamletMel, one of the Borghi piu belli d'Italia
